Recording is Fun!

One of the things that’s been keeping me away from my blog (as if much is needed to do so, really) is a cool program by the name of Audacity. It’s a free sound editing tool that actuallyhas a pretty good feature set for the amateur recording artist. I’ve been able to use a couple of cheap mics and all of my instrumentation (my guitars, my bass, my horns, my piano and my voice) to play around with some multitracking, mixing and balancing, and it’s given me the opportunity to put downmy versions of some of my favorite classic rock and blues songs. Been mostly straight covers lately, though I may get around to recording some updated versions of some songs I wrote a decade ago. We’ll see where this goes, but this whole process has me pretty excited.

I may post some of the final products when I get the chance. All live playing on real instruments; I don’t own a keyboard/synth at this point. Also, everything’s drum-less, as I’ve been without a drum set for a few years now, but the piano’s good for keeping track of the secondary beat on some of the songs and rhythm guitar takes care of the rest. Gotta love that rhythm section; that’s my bread and butter as a musician.
