Well, let me be the (probably) last to wish you Happy New Year and I hope your holiday season went well. The year 2008 will be remembered kind of strangely for a lot of people. For me, though, it was pretty darn good, and got really good near the end, despite the economic turmoil all around.
I’ll need to get a car soon (probably within the next month or so), which is both good (“New car! Woohoo!!”) and eh (“New car payments — feh!”). I’m looking at something a little smaller and more nimble than my Olds Alero, which finally has more problems than it’s worth after nearly years of good and mostly trouble-free service. At the top of my list so far are the VW Jetta (maybe the TDI diesel, maybe not), the Subaru Legacy (Limited, with the leather seats — a little hard to give those up after all these years) and the Volvo S40. With the auto industry (unfortunately) hurting the way that it is, prices are pretty good, even for companies that aren’t in immediate danger of going under. On the American front, I’ve always liked the Ford Fusion and the Saturn Aura (and its cousin, the Chevy Malibu), though I’m a bit leery of once again buying a car from a brand that is likely to disappear in the near future. We’ll see.
I’ve finally gotten around to installing Tomb Raider: Underworld, which has sat on my desk since Christmas week. With work, choir practices, various church meetings and services, and hanging out with my girlfriend (the major reason why 2008 ended so well), I haven’t had much time for gaming. I’ll also probably get around to installing GTR: Evolution soon as well, even though it’s spent more time on my desk than Tomb Raider. At least driving games take less of a time commitment per sitting than something like Tomb Raider would, so I’ll probably get to play it a bit over the next few days.
I’ll let you know how those games play. Will be my first review in some time. I owe you guys some movie reviews, too, so look forward to one for Seven Pounds, and if I get to see a couple more of the new ones, I’ll add those.
May blog during the inauguration, though I’m gonna be watching on TV like most of the rest of you. 😉 Later.
