Amazing what half a month can do. Here I was a few weeks ago, lamenting how the Nats were getting bounced around and just couldn’t find ways to overcome all the injuries, and here we are, one 12-5 stretch later, and the optimism’s back in full force. Some pitchers are on their way back in a couple weeks or so (Hill and maybe O’Connor) or maybe a little longer (Patterson), maybe Nick Johnson will be back, and the rest of the offense actually looked like a major league offense on the recent road trip (the Nats previously were horrid on the road) against teams outside their division (the Nats previously were horrid against anyone outside the NL East).
Maybe they’ll keep this up, and maybe they won’t, but they sure don’t give up, do they?
I’ve been reading Jayson Stark’s The Stark Truth, a book of his most overrated and underrated baseball players of all time. Light fare, to be sure, but entertaining, as Stark is a bright baseball reporter with his numbers in check and his homework done, and he doesn’t take himself very seriously at all, which makes it hard to beef with him even if you don’t agree with his assessment.
And if that’s not enough baseball, I also picked up MLB 07: The Show for my PS2. A few bugs here and there, but pretty good. Maybe more on that later.
