So, we’re through the first weekend of the NCAA mens’ basketball tournament. My brackets aren’t too busted just yet — I’ve only lost one possible Elite Eight team (Texas — what happened to them?) and my Final Four picks are still in play.
Meanwhile, at my alma mater — who, incidentally, haven’t been anywhere near the NCAA tourney in quite some time — some faculty call for the resignation of the university president. (Yeah, yeah, that article’s a couple weeks old, but I haven’t posted in a while, now have I?) Oh, the drama!
I’m actually surprised that it took this long. Not that I actually think that Swygert’s incompetant, per se, but he certainly has been controversial for a little while now and a number of questions have come up about some of the ventures he’s wished to involve Howard in from time to time. I think a few people had been expecting something like this (while probably not something as bold as a letter from the faculty senate) ever since the Board of Trustees’ leadership changed over, since there’s some component of having to prove your worth all over again when you get a new boss. There has been a bit of a groundswell of discontent in some circles, though it is also clear that he has some support as well.
Oh, well. I’ll be watching how this turns out with interest.
