Wha… What happened?

Motor Trend Classic May 06 cover Just got a notice in the mail yesterday about a pretty decent publication that’s about to go out of production: Motor Trend Classic. I was a newcomer to MTC, and I was (and still am) under the impression that it hadn’t been around all that long, but from the first time I saw an issue in the store, I knew I’d like it.

I’m into classic cars; I hope to start a collection of my own once I actually get some spare time and get a few other priorities out of the way. I also subscribe to a ton of car magazines. Never subscribed to Motor Trend, as I subscribe to a couple of mags that cover their ground, but their Classic pub got my attention. From the first issue that I picked up, it immediately struck me that the content guys were really digging deep, doing articles on some unusal, occasionally obscure, but always elegant and interesting cars to profile. (Really loved their spread on Frank Sinatra’s late ’50s Continental Mark II and Caddy.) I love muscle cars and the famous exotics and all, but you can only read about those for so long before you feel a little bit saturated with info on commonly-known cars. These guys were going for something different, you could just tell. Now it’s going away, and that’s a little bit sad.

Guess I’ll have to find a different classic car mag to fill that spot.
